If you're visiting Krabi for the first time, I highly recommend staying in Ao Nang. It has the widest selection of hotels, easy access to island tours, plenty of restaurants, and one of the best beaches for watching the sunset. Whether you're traveling on a backpacker's budget or planning a luxury getaway, Ao Nang makes a practical and enjoyable base for exploring Krabi.
Why I Chose Ao Nang
When I started planning my Krabi trip, I kept asking myself the same question: Should I stay in Railay, Ao Nang, or Krabi Town?
After reading countless reviews, I finally booked a hotel in Ao Nang - and I'm glad I did.
Ao Nang isn't the quietest beach in Thailand, nor is it the most luxurious. What makes it special is how convenient everything feels. You can walk to the beach, grab fresh seafood, book a long-tail boat to nearby islands, or simply spend the evening at a beachfront cafe without needing a scooter or taxi.
After a few days, it became obvious why so many travelers choose Ao Nang as their base.
Why Ao Nang Is the Best Area to Stay in Krabi
Ao Nang combines everything most visitors need.
The beach stretches along a lively promenade filled with restaurants, massage shops, cafes, convenience stores, and tour agencies. Every morning, boats leave from Ao Nang Beach for Railay Beach, Hong Island, Chicken Island, and the famous Four Islands tour.
I loved that I could wake up without a strict plan. Some mornings started with breakfast overlooking the sea, while others turned into spontaneous island-hopping adventures.
Evenings were just as enjoyable. Street musicians played along the beachfront, families gathered to watch the sunset, and the atmosphere felt relaxed rather than overwhelming.
If it's your first time in Krabi, staying here simply makes travel easier.
Beachfront Hotels Worth Considering
Nothing beats opening the curtains and seeing the Andaman Sea.
These beachfront resorts offer some of the best locations in Ao Nang.

Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Krabi
This resort feels surprisingly secluded despite being close to Ao Nang. Surrounded by limestone cliffs, it's only accessible by boat or a scenic walkway over Monkey Trail.
If you're looking for a peaceful holiday with beautiful sea views, this is one of the best choices.
Holiday Ao Nang Beach Resort
Located just across from Nopparat Thara Beach, this hotel is ideal for families. The pools are spacious, rooms are modern, and you're still within walking distance of Ao Nang's restaurants.
Krabi Resort
One thing I liked about Krabi Resort is its direct beach access. Instead of crossing the main road, you're already on the sand within seconds.
Watching the sunset from the beachfront restaurant became part of my evening routine.
Best Mid-Range Hotels Near Ao Nang Beach
Not everyone wants to spend hundreds of dollars per night. Fortunately, Ao Nang has plenty of hotels that balance comfort and price.

Panan Krabi Resort
This ended up being my favorite mid-range hotel.
The rooftop pool overlooks the limestone cliffs, breakfast is generous, and the walk to Ao Nang Beach takes around five minutes.
BlueSotel SMART Krabi
Adults looking for a quieter atmosphere will probably enjoy this hotel. The rooftop infinity pool is excellent, and the rooms feel more modern than many hotels in the same price range.
Sea Seeker Krabi Resort
Although it isn't directly on the beach, it's an easy ten-minute walk away. The hotel offers large rooms, friendly staff, and one of the best value-for-money stays in Ao Nang.
Budget Hotels That Still Feel Comfortable
Traveling on a budget doesn't mean giving up comfort.

Mini House Aonang
A small boutique hotel with exceptionally friendly staff. It feels quiet despite being close to the busy tourist area.
Wake Up Aonang Hotel
If location matters most, this hotel is hard to beat. Restaurants, cafes, and Ao Nang Beach are only a short walk away.
Aonang Eco Inn
Simple, clean, and affordable. It's perfect if you plan to spend most of your day exploring islands rather than staying inside the hotel.
My Favorite Place to Stay
If I came back tomorrow, I'd probably choose a hotel about five minutes away from Ao Nang Beach instead of staying directly on the beachfront.
The beachfront hotels are beautiful, but they can also be busier and more expensive.
Being one or two streets back meant quieter nights, lower prices, and still only a short walk to the sea.
For me, that felt like the perfect balance.
Tips Before Booking Your Hotel
A few things I learned during my stay:
- Book at least one month early if you're visiting between November and February.
- Don't focus only on beachfront hotels - many excellent options are only a five-minute walk away.
- Check whether breakfast is included. Many hotels offer excellent breakfast buffets that save both time and money.
- If you're joining island tours, staying close to Ao Nang Beach makes morning pickups much easier.
- Ask for rooms facing the limestone cliffs instead of the main road if you're sensitive to traffic noise.

Final Thoughts
Looking back, staying in Ao Nang was one of the easiest travel decisions I made in Thailand. It gave me the flexibility to slow down when I wanted to, while also making it simple to hop on a boat and explore Krabi's famous islands. Whether you're looking for a luxury beachfront resort or a comfortable hotel just a few minutes from the beach, Ao Nang offers something for every type of traveler. If I return to Krabi in the future, this is exactly where I'll stay again.
